I am Hugh Gallagher former Chairperson and Treasurer of AAR-UK and now Alopecia UK Trustee.
How did I get involved with Alopecia UK?
My first contact with Alopecia UK was in 2016 when I met with Simon Ray and other AUK trustees at their Big Weekend event in 2016 in Glasgow. Since that initial meeting, I became heavily involved in seeing through the merger of AAR-UK and Alopecia UK.
What is my alopecia story?
A very close relative developed Alopecia in 2014 and since that time, in my early retirement from being a Head Teacher, I have channelled my energies in to fundraising and attending conferences. I was very fortunate to be invited to the NAAF conference in New York in November 2016.
What are my hopes for Alopecia UK?
I live for the day when the illness will be properly treated by the NHS and the medical profession will recognise Alopecia as a disease and not a cosmetic problem.
The merger between AAR-UK and Alopecia UK has been a long-drawn-out process, which I personally gave a lot of my time to, and I look forward to the combined charities forging ahead in the world of Alopecia Research.
