Below is some useful information about the actual day. This is subject to change and is only to be used as a loose guideline to help those who have not been before know what to expect:
UPDATE: 18/1/2017 - WE'RE DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THAT OUR AMBASSADOR, DOUBLE OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL WINNING CYCLIST JOANNA ROWSELL SHAND, WILL NOW BE JOINING US AT
ALTON TOWERS! Joanna will be with us for the day. We will facilitate a Q&A session at the lunchtime meet up and Joanna will go on the rides with some of the groups. Further details to be released in due course but we look forward to spending the day with Joanna!
UPDATE: 17/1/2017 - this year we have been offered a room by Alton Towers which will make a fab base for the day, particularly for our lunchtime meet up. Full details will be sent out to all attendees in due course.
(to be confirmed)
9:15 - 10am (10:30am at the latest) - Arrival & ticket collection from volunteers waiting in the entrance
10am - Organised groups go through to the park with their volunteers
Please note that arriving AFTER 10am may not have the same impact or 'buzz' as if you arrive BEFORE 10am because most people will have gone through. As such we recommend arriving before 10am to get the best first impression of the day as the next big group gathering isn't until lunchtime (and bear in mind that the park is BIG so it can be hard to find a group once they have set off).
1:30pm – 2:25pm - lunchtime meet up. Will take place in Towers Suite on Towers Street (different to previous years).
2:25 – 2:30pm - Big group photo, location TBC
2:45pm - We’ll send group/s off round the park again.
4:50pm - Final Group Photo Opportunity TBC. Last year we went on Blade (The Forbidden Valley) to finish the day! The park shut at 5pm in 2016 so we then ran to the Runaway Mine Train to fill it for the last ride of the day (which we did twice over!).
5pm – Ride queues closed at this time in 2016.
We always facilitate groups to go round the park together. These are optional but a great way to meet others and make new friends! We have had a lot of feedback from attendees who were really pleased to have joined a group and felt they got more out of their day because of it.
This year we will facilitate six groups (which may break down to smaller groups on the day dependent on numbers). In summary:
Not quite Thrill Seekers but includes some spinning rides! (i.e. Enterprise & Spinball Whizzer)
Not quite Thrill Seekers but minus the spinning rides (i.e. Enterprise & Spinball Whizzer)
Thrill Seekers! (All the Big Ones!)
The Chilled One - those not wanting to go on rides but still wanting to join us and soak up the atmosphere (Skyride, go for a walk round and visit coffee shops etc)
The groups have been designed around height and thrill seeker status as opposed to previous years where we’ve done it on age and gender! If you would like to take part in a group (whether for some or all of the day) you can make your decision based on: • How much of a thrill seeker you are • Your height and the height of those in your party!
CLICK HERE for a Pdf of the proposed routes outlined for each group. Note that these are subject to change. For example sometimes certain rides are shut, or some queues are excessively long so it makes sense to go on something else first etc. We will facilitate a WhatsApp Group Chat for each group and ask volunteers to update it throughout the day (we know a toilet stop can result in people losing each other!). We will contact attendees about groups towards the end of March.
We do not expect to be able to keep 180 people together but we do want to give people the option to go round together as a big part of this is having the opportunity to meet others with alopecia which we know can be really beneficial. And there can be a lot of time waiting in queues so it is nice to have people to chat to! As the day goes on people might break in to smaller groups, which is absolutely fine. We want the day to be easygoing and for everyone to just enjoy themselves and have a good time!
