On Friday 30th July 2010 Cowboys and Indians from across the UK decided it was time to meet together at the first ever Childrens’ Alopecia Camp. Some travelling day and night to get there, everybody was pleased to return home to our roots in Scarborough’s Wild West, Pinewood Holiday Park.

The view was wonderful and it was amazing to see how life has changed with a lovely camp site now filled with Cowboy Shacks and Indian Tipis living side by side.

A warm welcome was available on hand from our wonderful hosts Kerry and Dave from Pinewood. Their shop stocked to the brim of new cowboy hats and feathers for our weary travellers.

After a lovely nights sleep in the splendid accommodation dawn broke where the sounds of Yee Ha were replaced by the sound of music. The Break Dancers had arrived! Two hours of twisting, bopping and popping proved to be amazing fun for the children. Watch out we certainly have a few stars in the making!

Lunchtime, we were treated to Sherriff David Dorward’s culinary delights, now that man sure can make a hot dog!

No cowboy weekend would be complete without a visit by a trusty horse and Jess was just that, fresh and ready on hand to treat our youngsters to a ride around Pinewood enjoying the spectacular views.

Just as Jess was getting a little tired a rumour spread around the camp their was a magician in town, so there was! Not just a normal magician but one who was prepared to share his secrets to our trusty kids! Two hours of learning new tricks proved to be so much fun, our magicians skilled to take their talents out into the yonder.

“What is that noise?” The magician asked. A strange sound had started echoing around the camp. Nothing to be alarmed about it was our incredibly talented Jazz Band “Jelly Roll Jazz Band”.

The sun was now out and sparkling on the camp, the atmosphere was electric. The band started to play and everybody started to gather outside the sheriffs office. Something big was happening in town.

After two hours of sensational music by Jelly Roll, the party started. Cowboys, Indians and Break Dancers all doing their thing. Little Cowboys, little cowgirls and little indians safe and secure in Pinewood now could enjoy the party!

The smell of BBQ’s suddenly was replaced by the smell of roasted marshmallows, dusk began to fall and the pit fire had been started. What an amazing experience children and adults all treated to a wonderful camp fire!

As night fell on Pinewood a wonderful day was remembered by all. Something happened on that day which was more than just luck, everybody went to bed knowing they had new friends for life but everybody could go to sleep knowing our scout Darren was to get up at dawn to book next year!

And so it happened smoke signals littered the sky, the Alopecia Camp would indeed be coming to town again but this time for three nights!

Hi Darren,
Absolutely wonderful!! What a great job you have done. Wish there had been something like that when I was a child/teenager - how alone I felt. These kids will benefit so much from what you have done - hats off to you all!Clap
