Hi guys
Well for the last three years I have been reasonably patient in so much as I thought I would see how things go and maybe my hair would just come back. To date, I have never tried any treatments apart from taking a few extra vitamins.
In terms of acceptance I am there in realising that there is no cure and even if it does grow I will only be in remission and always have the potential for more loss. However I am not there in the fact that I still don't feel like myself as I don't do many of the things I used to, such as flirt, swim, play tennis or anything else that might involve damaging my wig.
I have about 60% hair regrowth; was going well and reached a point of dormancy and stopped there. Not much growth and not much loss.
I figured I would give something a go to see if i can wake up my alopecia for better or worse. I was planning to try the DCP treatment but it is a five hour round trip to the nearest hospital where it is on offer. Being a single mum who works full time that would never work. I tried paying privately at Nuffield but they don't offer DCP, only minoxidil and can't do 4pm appointments.
My derm actually said: 'The NHS works really well people who don't work and have all day, 70% of attendance at GP surgeries are by people who don't work'
Gosh I didn't know that.
Anyhow, I have bitten the proverbial bullet and ordered a 6 month course of 5% minoxidil to see what happens, if anything. My derm said I would be a reasonable candidate statistically as I have some growth going on.
I have decided i would keep a weekly diary of how it is going to let you guys know how I get on. -Hope you don't mind. It will be a good way of keeping a record and hopefully useful for anyone else who might be thinking of trying anything
I haven't received it yet but when I do I shall get started
All the best

Oooooo yes please Millie, do keep us updated on how the monoxodil works for you. My doctor suggested I try using it, but I didn't bother, but if I hear of some positive results I might give it a go. Saying that I do have alot of regrowth on one of my patches which is quite big, and I seem to find a little bit more fuzz every day, so maybe I wont need it. Fingers crossed eh? Good luck with the monoxodil xxx

hi millie did you order your minox off the web, and have you tried the 2% minox first, as i know woman are trying 5% .
Also do not pay over the odds for the minoxidil as there are a lot of generic versions out there.
It does depend as well if you have either aa or alopecia androgenica.
As a user of many different natural and drug hair loss treatments over many years i may be able to help in some ways if you have seen any products you would like to try as i have been ripped off by some hair loss scams in the past. Dave

Hi Tinytim30
Yes I deliberated between 2% and 5% for a while, and having read various research articles on clinical studies the consensus was that 2% was suitable for Telogen Efflivum but not effective enough It was suggested that 5% was more suitable for AA; although of course with this i will be running a risk of a reaction. I will see how it goes but I don't want to spend 6 months on 2% if it I really need 5.
I ordered the foam as apparently it dries quicker and does not contain propylene glycol which is an allergen.
I ordered it on line and the price was pretty standard: £48 for 3 month supply.

hi millie that seems a good price for the foam.i used it for a while but i got some side affects from it,a word of warning to others that want to try minoxidil in the first two weeks or so you may get more hair loss, but after that if it does work you will start getting regrowth at about three months with 5% and at six months to a year if you do not have success it is not worth it to carry on.
Remember any regrowth you get with minox is only while you keep using it,do not stop straight away if you have success as it is a lifetime thing,in other words if you stop whats regrown will then start to lose again.

Hi Millie
Look forward to hearing your results. I have had mixed success with it I am sure it helped some patches recover but I continued using it and it seemed to stop having any impact. I took a break from it and have jst started using it again on some new patches. It will be interesting to see if it works.

Hi guys
Well I am only on day 3. the first application gave me a blinding headache almost instantly. I was quite downhearted thinking that I could not tolerate that for 6 months; however, the subsequent ones have not caused any problems.
Thankfully no allergic reaction so it's all good so far

Hi guys
Well it has been a week. I have applied the stuff every day but have cut it down to once a day. It makes what hair I have quite greasy and I don't want to put my nice clean wig on top of it in the mornings. I have been applying it last thing at night after the vitamin regime. So far there is no change as it is a little too early. My hair is behaving as normal, a little patch appearing while another starts to fill in. I have no scalp irritation but I have been using the nizoral shampoo every morning to counteract this. I will probably switch to good old head and shoulders as it is cheaper.

Hi Millie the 5% minox has given me headaches in the past and i did give it up for a while,i think you would have been better trying the 2% first, but as said using once a day should be ok,you say it is greasy are you using the lotion? as the blue rogaine foam you can get now is not greasy at all.
