Many thanks Claire,

I was on Prednisolone for a couple of months with good results backed up by Dermovate once I had come off them.  So far, so good, but trying not to get my hopes up too early.

I have more or less made up my mind that Cyclosporine sounds too harsh a treatment.  I have been warned of very nasty side effects including risk of diabetes, cancer and kidney failure and that I would need to have weekly blood tests to check that my kidneys are OK - all that and the risk of possibilty of further hair loss once the treatment has stopped!! So all in all, I don't think it is worth it.

Thanks for your replies.

Hi there,
A friend went on this, got initial regrowth, which then started to fall out even while she used it, and she began to develop kidney problems so had to stop it.

Sorry for sounding negative, but your post did want to hear of anyone using it, with good or bad experience!

What have you been on previously?

Cheers,

Claire M

There is a couple of trichos in uk using a topical version of cyclosporine combined with minoxidil plus oral propecia with good results for androgenetic alopecia.

Hi,

My dermatologist has mentioned that this may be the next course of action depending on how my body reacts to coming off the steroids.  I have read that there are nasty side effects, this being a drug to treat organ transplant patients and to prevent the body rejecting the new organ, and that once medication stops, the new growth often falls out anyway.  I just wanted to know if anybody had any experience of this drug - good or bad and what your opinions were.

Many thanks in advance.
