And? I thought you were posting with information on a solution not just a description. I already know what alopecia areata is because I've had it nearly 20 years!!! Angry

Katy, given that there's a blue clickable link in the signature, which I would never touch, the poster is likely advertising something.  Don't even go and look at such things, the words offered up as a link don't always match content, might be very offensive, contain computer virus  At best we are not allowed to advertise so even if legit, its rule breaking.

There are many different treatment plans for alopecia areata. The most typical is observation. When the patch of hair thinning is small, it is sensible to observe it and enable the hair to grow back by itself. One more option is applying a powerful topical steroid like Diprolene or Temovate to the area. It might take many months for the hair to progress back like this. Some other common treatment option is shot of a steroid, like Celestone into the involved crown skin. Preliminary regrowth of hair are visible in 4-8 weeks and remedies are repetitive every 4-6 weeks. The main side-effect from any steroid use is getting thinner of your skin.

Minoxidil has been utilized to promote hair regrowth and has proven cosmetically suitable results in 30% of events. Minoxidil doesn't stop the condition process so preventing applications after hair has begun to grow again may cause your hair to drop out again.

Looks like the original post that got me annoyed has been removed BJ. If it was still here I was going to report whoever it was with the alien name myself.

Angelindisguise - these treatment plans are all very well in theory but I've had two lots of steroid treatment with lotion and two with extremely painful injections in the past 19 years and nothing grew so your quote of preliminary regrowth of hair in 4-8 weeks is not typical in my experience or that of the alopecians I know. I was not and have not been offered minoxidil as I was told that it would not help my condition. And as for observation, I've been observing my almost full head of hair fall out very slowly on a daily basis for the last 4 years till I'm left with a small patch of hair on my scalp, no eyebrows, lashless "turtle" eyes and very little body hair. Still classed as AA though.

I know every case is different but I would like to think that this very general information is not being quoted to Newbies who might get their hopes up that they'll be cured.

Sorry but this is not a cure. If it was I wouldn't be here now wishing people would stop telling me I can be cured. I've had all the treatment on offer and nothing has worked ergo I am not cured. I have extremely active but slow progressing alopecia areata and I just hope that other people are fortunate to have the steroid treatment and have their hair back because of it but, you cannot categorically state that it is a cure.
If you have personally been cured then I wish you all the luck in the universe and truly hope that you are fortunate enough not to be faced with another bald patch.
