Hello Mollie, I am really sorry to read that things are getting worse for you. I have not got to the stage where I need a wig, however I believe that the only person that can write a nhs prescription for one is a consultant. You could ask your gp to write to the consultant for an urgent prescription for a wig. I am sure I have read that some consultants will do this at the request of the patients gp.  If this is not the case then I  am sure others on this forum that are more experienced in this area will give you some advice.

I hope your gp can advice you or write on your behalf, good luck and keep us posted on how you get on.

Just to add, read the treatment & wigs section on this site there seems to be lots of information there.

Probably the most terrible moment for almost any girl is shedding her hair because of alopecia. The moment when you prepare your therapy and see on your own losing your fairly hair you choose to get a wig. For many people, losing hair represents a big loss of self, a losing control and the visible conflict to be ill. Putting on a "bad" hairpiece is a public assertion that you are ill.

You need to realize that you are selecting a wig for your thinning hair situation, something to restore your earlier hair which you have lost. You will have to find hairpieces and wigs that are

long lasting
hassle-free for every day use
quickly managable
suitable as a substitute
matches your face

These are the most important aspects you need to consider prior to making the purchase.

I saw my GP and had a referral within a couple of weeks. I then received my letter concerning my wig within a week. Things moved really fast for me. Stress to your GP that you need a prescription x

Tell your GP that you would like to find out about getting an NHS prescription wig. They will need to refer you to specialist but if you make it clear that this is important to you, they should be able to turn it around in a couple of weeks. Don't be afraid to ask your GP. In my experience they can be a bit rubbish in treating alopecia seriously. They may not be able to offer a cure but they should be able to sort out a wig quickly if it something you decide to go for. After two years of no hair, I've only just got a wig now. Got it through NHS and it is very nice. I was referred to my dermatologist. He got me an appointment at the hospital for a wig fitting within 2 weeks- pretty quick. I'm probably going to stick to headscarves and "au naturale" look for most of the time but good to have a wig to wear now and again! Good luck and if you don't feel like you are getting the care you feel you need, don't be scared to speak up x

Hi

I lost my hair when I was 12, I'm now 21.  I think 'anglindisquise'  makes good sense.  You really need to work out what will work for you.  When I was looking I really wanted something secure and easy to wear (comfortable).  I wanted it to look like my hair and be as easy to look after.

I wear a Vacuum wig and it works great for me.  If you do a search on me you will find quite a few pictures with me wearing my hair.  If I can help with answering any questions about vacuum wigs just pm me.

Glad you managed to get something sorted. I wore my wig for the first time last Wednesday. Not sure I really liked it - wasn't was comfortable as my scarves. Am thinking I might just wear my wig once a week. "Wig Wednesday" has a nice ring to it! Will see how I feel in the morning.

Good luck with yours x

I'm so sorry to hear that. But don't worry, there have so many youngsters have this problem. In the future you need to take good care of your own hair,  the best way to accord with hair accident is to accomplish yourself adequate with your appearance. Adapt yourself advanced of time for hair loss. If you are not adequate traveling bald, acquirement hats, wigs and scarves to awning your head. You can acquirement a wig to resemble your accustomed hair in cut, blush and thickness. I'm interested in to find high quality wigs from online, so i know so many sites, now recommend to  you:, and sincerely hope that can help you. Don't worry. Everything will be fine. lol
