Raising money for charity can seem like a big challenge. Asking for sponsorship to take part in an event can be a simple way to raise funds. Well, simple depending on what event you choose - we are not suggesting a sponsored mountain climb is a simple thing to undertake but rather a simple way to collect donations!
In this electronic age, it is simple to collect sponsorship from individuals, even family and friends who may live far away. Alopecia UK is registered with both Justgiving.com and Virginmoneygiving.com and if you collect donations this way the money goes straight to Alopecia UK. All you need to do is decide which giving site you would prefer to use and search for Alopecia UK on their "browse for charities" section. You can then set up a simple webpage detailing the event you are taking part in and why you are raising funds for Alopecia UK. Once your page is set up, it is simple to share your page by sending a link via email or posting a link on Facebook or Twitter.
You can also collect sponsorship in the traditional way by asking people to enter their details on a paper sponsorship form. There is a bit more work involved on your part but it can be more effective in collecting donations as it's face to face.
We have a sponsorship form available to download here.
Sponsorship Top Tip:
Family, friends, neighbours and colleagues are the best place to start when asking for sponsorship. If approaching colleagues, a good idea is to ask for sponsorship on payday. Or Friday is a good day to send out your request as people tend to be in a better mood on a Friday as most people are looking forward to the weekend - avoid a Monday morning request!
