We are thrilled and delighted to announce a further Patron for Alopecia UK, actress and model Margaret Baker. Margaret, who lives in Manhattan, NY, and who has supported Alopecia UK with her inspirational messages and advice since it first started as a website in 2003, has had alopecia since she was two and a half years old and lost all of her hair by the time she was eight. As a girl who was entering the age of sleepovers and primping, the loss proved to be a devastating blow to her self-esteem but not knowing where else to turn, she sought out wigs for comfort. They allowed her to fit in, at least initially; until the ‘disguise’ took over her identity. Some years later she has now abandoned her wigs and says,
It has been three years since I started walking around as a bald female. We live in a society that places such a high value on hair, it is not always easy. However, giving up the wigs has been the most positive experience. I am free! Accepting myself has completely changed my outlook on life and the world around me. My baldness is no longer an insecurity. I feel blessed by uniqueness.
Welcome Margaret. We look forward to seeing and hearing more from you.
