Hannah's TALL challenge for Alopecia UK

30th July 2014

We caught up with Hannah Pagdin ahead of her fundraising challenge on Saturday 2 August.

What is your challenge?

Hannah: I am abseiling 150 feet down the Titan Clydebank crane in Glasgow. This is a VERY big challenge for me as I am acrophobic (terrified of heights), to the point that I hate big escalators and even glass lifts! I can't go near edges that are high up either.

Do you feel well prepared?

Hannah: I have done a "trial abseil" which was roughly 95 foot. I had a few panic attacks and cried a lot but in the end I managed it. The real thing will be completely different but I am feeling more confident and know to close my eyes and not look down! In a way I am looking forward to it. This will be a massive achievement but I am still panicking and still feeling extremely scared. I suppose it's all part of the challenge!!

Why have you chosen to raise funds for Alopecia UK?

Hannah: Alopecia UK has helped me a lot. I took part in the flash mob last September and the confidence it gave me was unbelievable. I am happy with my patchy head and could easily go without wigs but spending the weekend with other girls with alopecia gave me that little boost I needed. When I shaved my head I managed to raise just over 300 for Alopecia UK but I wanted to do more. My sponsored abseil will raise some funds to help Alopecia UK continue the fantastic things they do for people with alopecia. I wanted to give something back whilst doing a challenge for me as well.

How are you going to celebrate once you've finished?

Hannah: I'll probably celebrate with a nice bottle of bubbly after the abseil and I am guessing there will be a lot of happy tears. I wouldn't be able to celebrate if it wasn't for friends and family supporting me because without them I wouldn't be doing this! I will definitely still be tackling my fear of heights after the challenge by hopefully doing some rock climbing......maybe next year a new challenge and a whole new reason to celebrate!!

Thank you Hannah for challenging yourself and we wish you all the best for Saturday. Hannah is doing the abseil with her friend Elaine McWhirter who is raising funds for Autoimmune Alopecia Research UK. We hope they both have a fantastic day!

There is still time to show your support to Hannah by sponsoring her on her Justgiving page.
