On Saturday 6 September, in Blyth Market Square, Blyth, Northumberland, Wendy Frier is holding a fundraising event in aid of two charities close to her heart - Breast Cancer Care and Alopecia UK. We asked what she was planning and why:
Tell us about your event in September
Wendy: I will be having my head shaved in the market square in Blyth on Saturday 6 September. We also have a few volunteers who are having their arms or legs waxed. I'm lucky that a local barber and beautician have volunteered their services for free. We will also be holding a raffle and tombola and my friend Debbie and I have approached local businesses for donations and we have some lovely prizes and hope to pick up some more nearer the time. We have also put sponsor forms in lots of places where Debbie and I are well-known.
What prompted you to raise money for Breast Cancer Care and Alopecia UK?
Wendy: Unfortunately my sister has cancer for the fifth time and this time is rather poorly. My friend Debbie has alopecia and has been devastated by her hair loss. I wanted to do something to show my support to both these women who mean so much to me so decided to fundraise for both Breast Cancer Care and Alopecia UK.
What are your hopes for the event?
Wendy: Ideally I'd like to raise a nice sum for both charities and hope that lots of people come along on the day and support us. I'm also hoping we raise awareness of both charities, particularly Alopecia UK, given it is a small charity and September is Alopecia Awareness Month!
Thanks Wendy (and Debbie!) for all your efforts.
If you live in or around Blyth and can get along to the market square on Saturday 6 September, please support this fundraising event. It kicks off from 10am.
