Vicky Webb from Surrey is doing some fundraising for Alopecia UK. We caught up with her to find out what she has planned.....
Tell us a bit about what you're planning to do for Alopecia UK
Myself, my 3 sisters and 2 very close friends have decided to take part in the Color Obstacle Rush on the 6th June 2015 in Windsor. It's a 5 kilometre run which involves up to 10 obstacles.
Why have you chosen to raise money for Alopecia UK?
I have Alopecia Universalis. At 22 years old when my hair started to fall out, I felt alone and although I have huge support from my family, they didn't know how I felt. I am now bald and proud and alopecia has made me into a much stronger person.
How much are you hoping to raise?
Our group target is £750.00 and we are hoping to smash it!
Why is it so important to you to raise money for Alopecia UK?
When I first began to lose my hair around a year and a half ago, alopecia was like 'the unknown' to me. After around a month of dramatic hair loss and thinning, I decided it was time to have all my hair shaven off to beat the inevitable.
Alopecia UK is a great charity which is understated and they help to raise awareness of the condition. I have been approached a countless amount of times as my baldness has been misinterpreted as a result of cancer treatment. I am thankful every day that other than alopecia I am in good health, however by helping to raise awareness I hope that in the future people will not consider it an unknown like I did. I have attended an AUK support group meeting in Berkhamsted and met some amazing ladies and I would love to help raise money for something so close to all our hearts.
Good luck to Vikki and her sisters & friends. We hope you have a fantastic time at the Color Obstacle Rush. If you would like to sponsor Vikki, you can visit her Justgiving page here.
