Much loved member of forum in fatal car accident

6th December 2007

We are very sorry to bring you the news that Suzanne Parker (‘Scoobs’) and her partner Richard were involved in a fatal car accident on Friday 30th November.

Scoobs was an active and valued participant on the Alopecia UK forum who made many friends amongst the other members.

Scoobs always welcomed new people to the forum and did her best to help them. As one new member said,
I am really new here but remember being so impressed reading through the posts, feeling inspired in particular by Scoobs’ positivity. I wanted to say 'thank you' for providing a little light, even though I never spoke to you.

The funeral will be held at the Roman Catholic Church, Queens Road, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire at 10am on Friday 7th December 2007. The family have asked that donations in lieu of flowers in Scoob's memory are made to AUK and a JustGiving page has been set up by Fiona to facilitate this: www.justgiving.com/scoobs, at the time of the page closing £415 had been raised.

Paul Brasnett, Chief Executive of Alopecia UK (AUK) said,
Scoobs was always ready with a positive thought when someone was feeling down. She will be remembered as an important and valued member of the AUK forum, who made a tremendous impact on others with alopecia. We’re very grateful to Scoobs’ family for passing donations, in lieu of flowers, to AUK.

A thread about Scoobs’ and Richard’s accident has been set up on the forum and so far five pages of condolences and comments have been posted. You can view the comments here.

If you would like to send a private message to the families of the deceased, please email Ruth Bowdage: ruth@alopeciaonline.org.uk.

Extract of a post by Scoobs (remembered by Melissa):

God's Boxes

I have in my hands two boxes,
Which God gave me to hold
He said, "Put all your sorrows in the black box,
And all your joys in the gold."
I heeded His words, and in the two boxes,
Both my joys and sorrows I stored,
But though the gold became heavier each day,
The black was as light as before.
With curiosity, I opened the black,
I wanted to find out why,
And I saw, in the base of the box, a hole,
Which my sorrows had fallen out by.
I showed the hole to God, and mused,
"I wonder where my sorrows could be!"
He smiled a gentle smile and said,
"My child, they're all here with me.."
I asked God, why He gave me the boxes,
Why the gold and the black with the hole?
"My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings,
The black is for you to let go."

We should consider all of our friends a blessing.
