Talented teenager secures place at National Youth theatre

27th May 2009

Emily Clifford, 17, has had alopecia since she was two years old. But it hasn’t stopped her from chasing her dreams and she is currently studying Drama and Performing Arts at college.

Emily was one of only 15 youngsters to be accepted from the 200 people who applied. She will start two weeks of training in London in July and then spend up to eight weeks working behind the scenes in West End shows.

There is then an opportunity for further training, if funds can be found.

Emily’s mother, Claire White, said, ‘She has always been interested in acting and the stage and it was when she met Matt Lucas and he told her to get into the National Youth Theatre, which is what he did, that got her really motivated. Ever since then, Emily has had it in her brain.

This is a great achievement for anyone, let alone someone with alopecia. I’m very proud of her – she is an inspiration.’

If you know of any businesses who would be willing to help fund Emily please contact Claire at clairewhite2009@hotmail.co.uk.

Visit the support group for young people with alopecia that Emily and Claire run.
