Inspiring presentations from Alopecia UK Trustee, Jackie Tomlinson, to World Congress for Hair Research members in May 2013 obviously had a lasting impression which has resulted in the congress organisers generously donating £20,000 to Alopecia UK. The money has been donated with the condition that it gets used towards research, which works out very nicely! Some of you may already be aware of another important partnership that was created at the World Congress for Hair Research between Alopecia UK, leading UK clinicians and the James Lind Alliance.
To explain a little of what this is…
The James Lind Alliance brings patients, carers and clinicians together to identify and prioritise the top 10 uncertainties, or 'unanswered questions', about the effects of treatments that they agree are most important. This information will then help ensure that those who fund health research are aware of what matters to both patients and clinicians. In this instance Alopecia UK, leading UK clinicians and the James Lind Alliance will work together to create a Hair Loss Priority Setting Partnership, with Alopecia UK taking the lead. It is a process that will be rolled out over the next year.
This is a particularly exciting project for Alopecia UK to be leading on. Other patient support groups have used this process very effectively with the Vitiligo Society securing a 1.8 million pound funding grant based upon its Priority Setting Partnership.
We look forward to keeping you up to date in the future as this exciting project develops, as your participation and input will be needed. Please register to keep informed
And a HUGE thank you to the World Congress for Hair Research 2013, hosted by the European Hair Research Society, for the money which will enable this to happen!
