Helen Carter, 35, from Heath Hayes in Staffordshire is running the 2014 Bupa Great North Run (GNR) for Alopecia UK. We are lucky to have a few runners in this year's event. We had a chat with her ahead of the run in September.
What is are your hopes for the GNR?
Helen: I want to run the full half marathon distance, without stopping to walk!
How long have you been running?
Helen: I've been training four times a week since May - before that I would run once a week on a Sunday, if it wasn't raining!
Has your training for the GNR been going well?
Helen: Very well - except for a recent chest infection. Hopefully I'll be back to full strength soon. I had a little break, but am back on it now.
Why have you chosen to raise funds for Alopecia UK?
Helen: Because of my own diagnosis with alopecia areata last September. I realised I was allowing myself to become quite depressed by it and wanted to do something positive instead.
How are you going to celebrate once you have finished?
Helen: Champagne!! After adequate rehydration, naturally! And fish & chips from South Shields :-)
Thanks Helen! We hope you enjoy your Champagne and fish & chips!
