£5,000 charity prize up for grabs!

6th November 2014

Alopecia UK has a chance to win up to £5000, through Ocean Finance's new 'Win the Tin' competition. We need as many nominations as possible to reach the shortlist and each person who makes a nomination also has the opportunity to win £250.
The top 20 charities will then be open to the voting for the overall winner.
Charity Manager, Jen Chambers says: "It's great when businesses offer competitions like this to small charities. We've not won anything like this before but £5,000 would make a huge difference to Alopecia UK. It only takes a minute to complete the simple nomination form and it would be fantastic to make the shortlist and have the possibility of winning this amazing prize."
What £5,000 could mean for Alopecia UK
£5,000 could help us to get more projects up and running.  For example we would like to do more for children and young people.  £5000 would enable us to get this project off the ground working with a group of young people who would help us identify individual projects to roll our nationally, with an aim to help young people find peer support as well as support within their everyday environment such as school. It would also enable us to provide free tickets for children to come along to our national events  where they can experience being in an inclusive and supportive environment and feel 'normal' for a day surrounded by other children and adults just like them.
We are also working to improve our provision to support groups over the coming year.  It can be difficult to take yourself along to a meeting full of strangers at the best of times but with the added of stress, anxiety and emotional pain often associated with the initial stages of having alopecia, particularly in social environments, it can be enough to put you off going to a support group at all meaning that people are not accessing a crucial support network which could help them.  Currently all support group leads find free venues for hire, typically a pub, which many have stated is not appropriate or accessible by all.  £5,000 could support our 22 local support groups to find suitable premises for their meetings by having a small room hire budget.  This would mean that group meetings could take place in private and comfortable surroundings accessible to all allowing more people to access the groups and gain much needed support.
