Alopecia Areata and its Impact on Young People - A Clinical Review

10th March 2015

The British Dermatological Nursing Group's (BDNG) publication, 'Dermatological Nursing' is a popular medical journal which is read by many dermatology healthcare professionals in the UK.

Alopecia UK's Charity Manager Jen Chambers and Chair of Trustees Jackie Tomlinson recently collaborated with dermatologists Dr David Fenton and Dr Kapil Bhargava on an article for the latest edition of Dermatological Nursing titled "Alopecia Areata and its Impact on Young People".

Dr Fenton and Dr Bhargava concentrated on the clinical side of the condition whereas Jackie and Jen focused on the psychosocial effects of alopecia in young people. As the journal's circulation includes a huge number of dermatology professionals, the article will contribute to a greater understanding and awareness of the psychological impact of alopecia.

At Alopecia UK we are committed to contributing to articles such as this as we firmly believe that further education of medical professionals regardining the psychological impact of hair loss will lead to a better level of care provided to those with alopecia, as well as hopefully inspiring those involved in research to consider alopecia as a future topic.
