You may have seen young Sydney Caraher before. After attending our first Alton Towers event last year she was inspired to raise money for Alopecia UK. Last year, aged 4, she auctioned one of her paintings on eBay and raised over £200 from Alopecia UK. News of her fundraising efforts made the local press.
Now, aged 5, Sydney is set to take the modelling world by storm! Sydney's mum, Sarah, spotted a kids modelling competition in her local shopping centre and Sydney's photo was entered. The beautiful photo of Sydney received over 1,000 likes on Facebook meaning she was on the shortlist for the competition's judges.
The judges were clearly blown away by her gorgeous smile as Sydney was announced as the winner of her age group. As well as winning £100 in shopping vouchers, Sydney also won a modelling contract!
News of her win has hit lots of media outlets. She has had articles in the Liverpool Echo, The Mirror, ITV News website and BBC News website. She even had a spot on BBC Radio 5 Live and appeared on BBC North West Tonight.
Young Sydney has even inspired her grandma (Nanny Sue) to speak out about her own alopecia, with a follow up article appearing in the news too.
We are so pleased to hear of Sydney's win. We were thrilled to see her again at this year's Alton Towers event. She always makes us smile (this year with a spot of goose chasing!). We're sure that Sydney will help to inspire lots of other people with alopecia, children and adults alike. Modelling isn't her only talent. She has started to have lots of success at dance competitions and we already know she's a budding artist too! Sydney is proof that alopecia should not stop you from doing anything that you want to do!
Well done Sydney!!!
