Jeanette Oliver is one of the team members of 'A Clearer Head' and is also a trustee and treasurer for Alopecia UK.
"I developed alopecia in June 2012. I had a couple of small patches of hair loss in previous years which came and went. Over the space of just two months, I lost all my hair, including eyebrows and eyelashes which was incredibly distressing. In the last six months my hair has started to regrow but is patchy.
I drew a lot of strength from the information available on Alopecia UK's website and knowing that I wasn't alone. In time, I was able to come to terms with my hair loss and I purchased a number of wigs (all of which have different names!). This gave me the confidence to have a bit of fun with my look.
A defining moment for me was taking part in the Alopecia UK Flashmob in Liverpool in September 2013. This was the first time I had met a large number of people with alopecia and the first time I had ever removed my head covering in public. This really helped me feel comfortable in my own skin again and inspired me to help others who were having difficulty coming to terms with their hair loss.
I was so impressed with the work that was being achieved by the small group of volunteers who ran Alopecia UK that I offered to help. I subsequently became a trustee and treasurer of the charity.
I would like there to be greater awareness and understanding of alopecia amongst both adults and children, and for Alopecia UK to be recognised as the national charity that supports those with alopecia and their families."
Thank you to Jeanette for being part of 'A Clearer Head'! Jeanette's individual round will see her go head to head with Egghead, Judith. We can't wait to watch! Tune in on Thursday 17th March, 6pm!
