Pedro Cabral is father to 6 year old Maiya who has alopecia. She inspired him to do some fundraising for Alopecia UK and we are simply blown away by what he has managed to achieve......
Alopecia UK's Communications & Fundraising Manager, Amy Johnson, was lucky enough to attend the fundraising dinner Pedro organised in London last month.
Amy had an amazing evening at Village Fayre Restaurant and Bistro, London. The food was absolutely delicious with course after course of fabulous food. Pedro had organised a raffle and football shirt auction to take part on the evening too.
The highlight of the evening for Amy was to meet Maiya who, although shy at first, was chatting to Amy about school friends, singing, dancing, dresses, jewellery, Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber. Maiya is a beautiful little girl full of fun and energy.
Amy was happy to say a few words about the charity's work and was absolutely gobsmacked when a representative of a Portuguese community charitable group, 'Grupo Abraco Solidario' confirmed they would be donating £1,000 to Alopecia UK. This was the start of some fabulous totals.....
The raffle raised £1,535
The football shirt auction raised £1,700
The Village Fayre Restaurant and Bistro donated £535
And sales of Alopecia UK wristbands (with additional generous donations from attendees!) raised £253.
In total, the fundraising dinner raised a staggering £5,023 for Alopecia UK.
The night was topped off with lots of dancing and celebration - a truly wonderful occasion.
And if this wasn't enough, a couple of weeks later Pedro and some friends and family took part in the 'Tough Mudder' challenge at Belvoir Castle in Grantham. Tough Mudder is an endurance event designed by the Special Forces. It's not a race but about pushing yourself to the limits and working as a team.
Pedro was joined by 8 other team members, made up of friends and family, and they completed the course successfully wearing Alopecia UK t-shirts to raise awareness on the day. Pedro confirmed that the team were all very sore with aches and pains after the event but it was an adventure and they all had a great time!
And their efforts were rewarded with over £1,658 raised on the team's Justgiving page, taking 'Team Maiya's combined fundraising total to an unbelievably huge sum of £6,681!!
Alopecia UK would like to thanks EVERYONE involved in supporting Pedro and his fundraising efforts and we'd like to give a special mention of thanks to:
Group Abraco Solidario for their kind donation of £1,000
The Village Fayre Restaurant and Bistro for their donation of £535
To everyone who purchased a football shirt in the auction, with special mention to ex-Chelsea footballer Paulo Ferreira who donated £500 in the auction
To all of Pedro's family and friends who supported both the fundraising dinner and Tough Mudder challenge
And finally to Pedro, and of course Maiya, for everything you have done. We are extremely grateful for everything you have done!
